The Oregon Chapter of the Wildlife Society is committed to promoting the conservation of Oregon's wildlife

Creating an inclusive brand for a broad-scoped non-profit

The Oregon Chapter of the Wildlife Society has a mission to Inspire, empower, and enable Oregon's students, early-career, and established professionals to conserve diversity, sustain productivity, and promote science-based management through the participation and leadership of an open and inclusive community of members. In 2020, they decided to move forward with refreshing their old brand, which featured a thunderbird with an indigenous style. While including indigenous communities is important to ORTWS, they felt this was too specific of a look for a non-profit serving all of Oregon. They wanted their new brand to be modern, broad, and bring more attention to their focus on conservation.

This logo design project was originally my submission to the logo design contest that ORTWS put out at the beginning of 2020. With an abundance of time on my hands, I decided to put together my entry, and then my submission was later selected by the ORTWS board as the winning logo.

The new ORTWS logo features Oregons state colors, blue and yellow, with the new mascot being Oregon’s state bird, the Western Meadowlark. Minimalist hills and valley in the background represents Oregon’s landscape and natural features.
